Approximately twenty-five thousand homes in southeastern Queensland woke up lacking electricity on Monday's dawn after intense storm systems swept through the area, producing powerful gusts reaching over 100 km/h.

Massive Hailstones and Broad Damage

Residents observed large ice chunks measuring up to 7 centimeters in certain regions. The Bureau of Meteorology confirmed that various areas across Queensland had been impacted by large hailstones.

Utility workers were attempting to repair power throughout the affected regions, with nearly 70 crews working to manage the extensive power failures.

Southern State's Storm Challenges

Simultaneously, approximately 1,000 households in the southern state also experienced power outages after the metropolitan area recorded its heaviest rainfall in a year and a half.

Rescue organizations responded to 598 emergency reports across the region, mainly for property damage but also for collapsed vegetation and flooding.

• Hoppers Crossing suburb - multiple emergency calls
• Wyndham - over 175 calls for assistance

At the height on the previous day, over 28k electricity consumers in the state were experiencing outages.

Meteorological Predictions

Humid circumstances were predicted to continue along much of Queensland's east this next several days as a low-pressure trough continued to attract humidity against the coastal areas.

Tuesday was forecast to be the most rainy day, with persistent thunderstorm potential expected across different parts of both states.

Health Warning

Public health experts alerted that there was an greater possibility of thunderstorm-induced asthma across the northern rural areas, particularly given the ongoing climate situation.
